PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR

Professor Dahua LIN

Associate Professor

Department of Information Engineering

The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Dr. Dahua Lin is an Associate Professor of the Department of Information Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and the Director of CUHK-SenseTime Joint Laboratory. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of EECS at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012, his M.Phil. from the Department of Information Engineering at CUHK in 2007, and his B.Eng. from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Science at the University of Science and Technology of China in 2004. He was a research intern at Microsoft Research Silicon Valley, Microsoft Research Redmond, and Microsoft Research Asia, respectively in 2010, 2009, and 2004. He received the Best Student Paper Award at NIPS 2010, and the Outstanding Reviewer Awards at ICCV 2009 and ICCV 2011.

His research spans multiple areas in machine learning, data science, and computer vision. In particular, he is interested in developing new probabilistic models and machine learning techniques for large-scale data analysis, as well as their applications in image and text understanding. He has also worked on a variety of topics in computer vision and pattern recognition before joining CUHK.

Professor Lin published over 120 papers on top conferences and journals, e.g. CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICML, NeurIPS, and T-PAMI. His work on a new construction of Bayesian nonparametric models won the best student paper award in NIPS, the most prestigious conference on machine learning, in year 2010. Professor Lin also received the outstanding reviewer awards in ICCV 2009 and ICCV 2011. He is serving on the editorial board of the International Journel of Computer Vision (IJCV) and was the area chair for multiple conferences, including ECCV 2018, ACM Multimedia 2018, BMVC 2018, CVPR 2019, BMVC 2019, AAAI 2020, and CVPR 2021.

Professor Lin is the Co-Director and principal investigator of Centre for Perceptual and Interactive Intelligence (CPII) since 2020.
