Translating AI Research into Public Service: CPII Elevates RTHK’s Policy Address Live Broadcast Coverage with Smart Summarization
[Hong Kong, 16 September 2026] – The InnoHK Centre for Perceptual and Interactive Intelligence (CPII), one of the Chinese University of Hong Kong research centres admitted to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s InnoHK research cluster, in collaboration with Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), has marked its third consecutive year of collaboration with Radio Television Hong Kong. Powering the live transmission of the 2026 Policy Address, CPII deployed its upgraded Real-Time Speech-to-Summary Meeting Assistant, setting an elevated standard for AI-assisted broadcast media in Hong Kong.
By embedding deep learning technologies directly into RTHK’s production workflow, CPII continues to fulfill its mission of translating frontier research into societal benefit and operational efficiency.
Key Technological Upgrades & Features
- Semantic Transcript Sectioning:Converts unstructured live speech into logical, neatly organized sections, significantly improving transcript readability for audiences.
- Upgraded Summarization Engine:Extracts key policy directives in real time and formats highlights into concise visual graphics tailored for live broadcast screens.
- Low-Latency Live Subtitling:Delivers higher real-time transcription accuracy with minimal delay, keeping pace with rapid Cantonese delivery.
- Expanded Multilingual Capability:Beyond core support for Cantonese, English, and Mandarin, the system now features capabilities across Japanese, Russian, Hindi, French, Korean, Spanish, and Portuguese.
- Smart Speech Processing:Incorporates custom domain hotword updates, automatic Cantonese-to-English translation, dynamic code-switching, and automated punctuation/error correction.
During the live broadcast on RTHK 32, viewers received instant access to key policy highlights as the address unfolded. This year’s release ensures summaries are drawn exclusively from error-corrected, full-sentence outputs, achieving optimal balance between technical accuracy and visual clarity for the watching public.
