CPII Advances AI-Powered Broadcasting for the 2025 Policy Address

For the second consecutive year, the InnoHK Centre for Perceptual and Interactive Intelligence (CPII) – one of the Chinese University of Hong Kong research centres admitted to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s InnoHK research cluster, in collaboration with Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), has enhanced the live broadcast of the 2025 Policy Address with its Real-Time Speech-to-Summary Meeting Assistant. The system offers multiple AI-powered features, including real-time transcription, automatic translation, and rolling text summarization, setting a new benchmark for media broadcasting in Hong Kong.

Leveraging cutting-edge AI research, CPII has integrated advanced technologies—including customizable speech recognition, machine translation, automatic error correction, and key-point extraction—into RTHK’s broadcasting workflow. This collaboration reflects CPII’s mission to apply AI for societal benefit, promote technological progress, and improve broadcasting efficiency.

Key features of CPII Speech-to-Summary Meeting Assistant:

  • Customizable Speech Recognition: Real-time transcription in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin, with dynamic hotwords updates and seamless code-switching.
  • Cantonese-to-English Translation: Automatic translation of Cantonese speech transcript to English for broader audience reach.
  • Error Correction & Punctuation Insertion: Improves accuracy and readability of transcripts.
  • Generative AI Summarization: Produces concise summaries of key points during the Policy Address.

During the broadcast, AI-generated bullet-point summaries were displayed on RTHK 32’s live-streamed coverage, giving viewers immediate access to the main highlights of the 2025 Policy Adress.

This year’s release further enhances summary quality by generating summaries from error-corrected, complete sentences and optimizing the length of summary points to balance accuracy with readability.
