He obtained his B.S. degree from the University of Science and Technology of China in1990, M.S. degree from the University of Rochester in 1991, and Ph.D. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1996. He founded the CUHK Multimedia Laboratory in 2001 and led his team to attain world-class achievements in the field of Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, which includes the Best Paper Award at the IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) in 2009, and a ground-breaking face recognition system with a world-record accuracy of 99.15%.
