CPII is pleased to announce that the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2022 – Hong Kong Branch organized by the Innovation and Technology Commission with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation was successfully held on 1 Sep 2022 at Hong Kong Science Park. The Centre Director, Prof. Helen Meng was invited to give a speech on her latest development of CPII research and participate in the interactive exhibition showcasing their latest AI Innovations with her team.
InvestHK Webinar
The Director of CPII, Professor Helen Meng, shared the latest development of CPII research and innovations at the Webinar “The Journey of AI and Robotics: From Research to market” organized by the Invest HK on 19 August 2022. InvestHK is a HKSAR government department responsible for attracting and facilitating foreign direct investment into Hong Kong.
Innovation Hub@HK Launch Ceremony
The Innovation Hub@HK Launch Ceremony was successfully held on Aug 18, organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC). The Innovation Hub@HK is a dedicated website for Hong Kong to showcase research and development (R&D) strengths of HK’s public research institutes and universities. as well as act as a focal point to bring together the relevant stakeholders, including the academia, research institutes and the industry. The event was officiated by the Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong and the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Ms Rebecca Pun. Centre for Perceptual and Interactive Intelligence (CPII) is honoured to participate in this ceremony jointly with other top-notch research institutes.
Most Successful Women 2022

ACM SIGMOD 2022
CPII is pleased to announce that Prof. Eric Lo and his team members (Ziliang Lai, Chris Liu, Chenxia Han, Pengfei Zhang and Ben Kao) won the best demonstration runner-up award at ACM SIGMOD 2022 with “Everest: A Top-K Deep Video Analytics System“.
The SIGMOD demonstration program is for sharing cutting-edge, data management system prototypes with the greater SIGMOD community. Demonstrations may consist of software, hardware, or both. The emphasis of the SIGMOD demonstration program is on visionary, next-generation systems requiring significant research and development effort.
InnoHK Launch Ceremony
The InnoHK Launch Ceremony was successfully held today on May 25, marking a new milestone in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government’s commitment to promoting Hong Kong’s innovation and technology (I&T). As the flagship I&T initiative of the HKSAR Government, InnoHK aims to promote global research collaboration with a view to putting Hong Kong on the global advanced technology map.
Award – DialDoc@ACL 2022 Challenge
We are pleased to announce that our Principal Investigator Professor Helen Meng’s system ranks an overall FIRST in the 2022 DialDoc Workshop which was organized by The Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL). This year, ACL organized the 2022 DialDoc Workshop which hosted the Shared Task on building open-book goal-oriented dialogue systems. Out of the many systems that entered the Challenge, the organizers conducted automatic evaluation on two tests. The CPII-NLP system topped both leaderboards. Then the organizers selected a fraction (100) of the dialogs for human evaluators who scored them manually. Thereafter the top 3 systems were-reranked based on human-scoring. The CPII system ranked top on the SEEN leaderboard and ranked second in the UNSEEN leaderboard, and achieved the BEST System Overall in the DialDoc@ACL 2022 Challenge!
International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva
CPII is pleased to announce that our Principal Investigator Professor Chen Shih-Chi has been awarded the Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in recognition of his contribution to the city’s innovation ecosystem.
The International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva is the world’s most prestigious award devoted exclusively to inventions. This year, the event was held virtually on 16 – 20th March and attracted nearly 800 inventions from 25 countries and regions. Total 78 awards were scooped by HKSTP’s partner companies, while Prof Chen’s team contributed to one of the triumphs.

CPII is partnering with key global institutions from Artificial Intelligence (AI) Science and Technology to establish the Principles on AI for Climate Action. To address the importance of global climate change and ecosystems, CPII is now partnering with key global institutes, including International Research Center for AI Ethics and Governance of Institute of Automation, Institute for AI International Governance of Tsinghua University, Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence of Technical University of Munich, Center for AI and Data Governance of Singapore Management University, SPARK UNDP Sustainable Development Goals Innovation Lab, CUHK’s Stanley Ho Big Data Decision Analytics Research Centre, AI for Sustainable Development Goals Cooperation Network, Centre for AI Research from South Africa, Research Center for Brain-inspired Intelligence from Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences and China Institute for Science and Technology Policy of Tsinghua University. We believe that stakeholders of AI industry should deeply collaborate with other sectors to address climate change and to contribute to the global climate agenda.
